CURVI MODEL 1 V 2
The refreshing open sound of the Curvi speakers is due to the use of a single full range drive unit that is the best of its type, combined with a cabinet that is able to rapidly dissipate vibrational energy as heat, and effectively utilise low frequency energy that comes from the back of the drive unit to reinforce the overall bass response.
The Jordan full range drive unit is a coincident source that provides unrivalled imaging qualities and preserves the acoustics of the recording venue. As the audio spectrum is not split between two or more drive units the attack waveform of a sound is fully preserved and not broken apart by a frequency dividing network (crossover).
Once the attack waveform is fragmented in the frequency and time domains by a crossover, it may be difficult for the brain to re-assemble the fragments, as they do not reach the ear at the same time.
The extra processing the brain has to do in terms of reassembling the component waveforms from the bass/mid and tweeter drive units may be a factor that contributes to significant loss of the emotional stimulation that is enjoyed when listening to live music.
This is why the sound from most multi-driver loudspeakers becomes boring after the initial "honeymoon period", and on critical comparison with a real musical instrument, is actually not always very life-like.
The Curvi cabinet is a complete rethink of the tapered line approach; development of the Curvi line profile has reduced reflections to a minimum, such problems usually afflict rectilinear tapered lines and can lead to muddying of the sound.
The cabinet shape is borrowed from the natural and musical instrument worlds - no one in their right mind would design a tuba or trombone with sharp right angle bends in the tube!
The laminated birch ply construction and continuously varying span lengths in the side walls are key factors in ensuring rapid energy dissipation and vanishingly low cabinet resonance.
